4 Stars Does a good job, but beware of potential limitations
I just received this item today, along with a Jabra BT3030 Bluetooth Stereo Headset. I plan to use these for listening to our bedroom TV when my wife wants to sleep. I read the brief instructions and was able to pair the two devices on my first attempt, using the Sony adapter as a transmitter. Audio quality is more than adequate for watching TV, and even rivaled the quality I would expect form a wired connection. After pairng, I was able to walk out of the bedroom and about 12 feet down the hallway (for a total separation of about 20 feet) before the Bluetooth connection was dropped.
Overall, I am very pleased with this unit, but I’d like to point out a few potential limitations that might be deal-breakers for some people (fortunately, these were non-issues for me):
1. The device must be plugged into a wall outlet (or some other 120 VAC power source), as it does not provide a battery-powered option.
2. At any given time, the device can only operate as either a transmitter OR a receiver (NOT as a transceiver) — which is selectable by a top-mounted switch.
3. The device will only pair with Bluetooth devices that use a device ID of “0000″. This is not changeable.
Again, these limitations were not a problem for me at all. It’s also worth mentioning that the device is very compact (the pictures are a little deceptive), and it comes with a cable (about 3 feet long) that terminates with a mini stereo plug at both ends.
I withheld a star’s worth of rating due to the single Bluetooth profile supported by the device. It supports A2DP, which is necessary for stereo channel separation, but it does not support AVRCP, which would have enabled Bluetooth-based remote control (which is irrelevant to me, but might be a nuisance to others).
1 Star Bluetooth Passcode
This unit works as a transmitter ONLY with headsets that have a Bluetooth passcode of “0000″. It can’t be changed. Nor can the passcode on my headset, which is set to “8888″. So they can’t link up. Oops. This one is on its way back.
5 Stars Great gadget
This thing work better then any bluetooth devices I have ever had. Just plug it ,set it and start the other devices and it work every time.
5 Stars Just what you need in order to play your iPod through your home stereo
We wanted a simple way to play the music on our iPods through our home stereo system. This product, coupled with the Sony Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter for iPod, was just what we needed.
You connect this device to your stereo via the auxiliary input and set it to receive. Then, plug the Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter to your iPod and follow the pairing instructions. The whole setup took just a couple of minutes.
As with any Bluetooth device your range is limited to about 30 feed, more or less. Our stereo is located in an enclosed cabinet but it still has a range of just over 20 feet. That’s plenty of range to take the iPod in the kitchen and control the playlist through the iPod from there.
2 Stars Really didn’t work for me
This had too short a range (couldn’t make it across the room) and required a n outlet plug-in to work. I wanted something for running that didn’t require me to plug this into this, that into that, until it felt like an Erector set project. It just didn’t suit my needs.
