5 Stars Perfect for my needs
I’m very impressed with this little unit. How can something so simple-looking and so small work so well without its own power source? I listen to books-on-tape at night and this really fits the bill. No need for high volume and the sound quality is just fine at the volume I use. I waited a week to rate it because a different machine (iHome)broke after just a few nights. Very poor quality. So far, this one is a gooder.
The only thing I didn’t like is that the packaging was a little confusing. It read, “No batteries/AC adapter required.” Now that I know the “/” replaces the word “or”, it’s clear, but the salesMEN (plural) and I understood it to mean that batteries weren’t needed but an AC adapter was. In the end, I returned the unnecessary adapter and really like this thing.
It’s a few months later and I thought I’d update… NO CHANGE! I still think this speaker is fantastic. I’ve traveled with it since my last post and had zero problems. It’s really great. Highly recommended.
4 Stars Crisp clear but small sound!
First off, if you’re planning a Disco, then these are definitely not for you.
These speakers are great for listening to music in small spaces, your bedside, for example. Volume isn’t great (though I get more out of them by increasing the volume setting on my iPod through iTunes – If you don’t do this, sound will be frustratingly low) as the speakers draw power from whatever device they are connected to (iPod, PC, phone, etc, sparing you worries about charging or replacing batteries), but sound quality is crisp and clear with some Bass sounding. Just remember to disable any Bass boost or equalizer settings on your player to prevent sound distortion.
The design is lovely, and ideal for travel, snaps shut like a spectacles case, and the 30cm cord wraps snugly into place, but you must handle with care as the hinge does look rather fragile.
Great for when one tires of using headphones.
4 Stars Surprisingly good!
I picked this up for a little speaker set to carry around. I also have the Sony SRS-T33 Sony SRS-T33 Compact Portable Speakers (Blue)active/passive speakers which work great. While this speaker is better passive than the SRS-T33 used passively, the TR-33 does have a better sound when battery powered. Nice to have in the kitchen or downstairs to plug my MP-3 player into while folding laundry.
Let’s not kid ourselves though, it’s not gonna power a dance party.
Also consider: the LG MSP-100 LG OEM MSP100 MSP-100 Stereo Portable Universal Speaker which charges through USB and comes with connections for mini- and micro- jacks which also has a pretty nice sound for the size.
3 Stars A price to pay for portability
If you can tolerate just a little bit bigger speaker with batteries, there are better choices for the money. iHome iHM10B from Wal-Mart is better sounding (a subjective opinion) and cheaper, but it is a little bigger and takes batteries. However, if your priority is portability, these will do nicely.
5 Stars Finally, No need to put earbuds in ears and batteries in speakers
I have many speakers for my MP3 players. They all require power cord or batteries (AA, AAA or C). When I received this speaker and tried it with my iPod Classic and other MP3 players, I felt so good to be able to listen to my MP3 without earbuds and be able to walk around with my speaker. Of course, my other speakers work too, but those speakers are not as portable as this little beauty. I don’t like having headphones on and I hate loud music that hurts my ears and upsets my neighbors, so I usually have to stay in the same spot while using the speakers that are plugged into a wall outlet. This can be very painful. Now I am having this speaker and my MP3 player hung around my neck. How? Well, I took the speaker cover off, used a long string to hold the speaker just like I used the lanyard to hold my MP3 players, then put them around my neck. That’s it. No need to worry about loud speakers at night. No need to put up with the discomfort of earphones. No need to switch MP3 players and speakers (I have speakers in every room), I am able to carry this low-volume speaker with me any time, anywhere.
Granted, it does not have the best sound quality and loudest volume, but it is just wonderful that I don’t have to use earbuds or stuck in front of a speaker that is plugged into the wall when I listen to my MP3. You know that when the music from your big speakers can be heard in every corner of the house, it will annoy the neighbors, especially at night. But with this speaker in my hand, around my neck or in my pocket, I will not upset my neighbor day or night.
Besides, this is the most economical choice for listening to your MP3 without headphones. No batteries needed, no wall outlet required. No need to carry batteries or AC adapter for it when using it away from home. Love it. Love it. Love it.
