1 Star Worked fine, for a short while
I bought this charger for my iPhone about 3 months ago. It worked fine for charging my iPhone in the car, though the cord was so short as to make it impossible to talk on the phone while it charged. Now, however, it will only work if the connector is inserted into the phone at an angle and propped up, a position pretty much impossible to maintain in a moving car.

I still need to charge my phone in the car occasionally so I plan to replace this unit with a higher quality product.

4 Stars Perfect for me, but not for everyone…
I use this to charge my iPhone 3G. I had a regular PowerJolt (non SE) before this and the USB cable that came with the original PowerJolt quit working within a week causing me to have to use another USB cable paired with it. Then the USB connection began to get tempermental so I purchased this NEWER and IMPROVED design. So far so good as this unit is an all-in-one-piece design.

Pro’s:

All-in-one piece should make it more reliable (and has been thus far).

Shorter than the old plug-in plus USB adapter (I hated having the long USB cable in my car as I always had to push the cable around.

Illuminated ring around the plug-in lets you know when the phone is charging properly.

Con’s:

Some may have liked the flexibility of always having a USB cable in the car with them (Personally I would rather pack one seperately as you would need a wall/plug-in adapter paired with it anyway unless you wanted to charge via PC).

I wish the connection would “lock” into the iPhone like the old iPod connections did (where you had to push the buttons on the side to “release” the charger). This is a small caveat but would be appreciated. With this short cord its easy to disconnect the iPhone on accident when shifting the phone around.

This is exactly what I wanted: short and compact. Yes, the cord is short, but that’s OK with me, the plug is compact, doesn’t stick out too much. The materials quality seems fine. I normally had good luck with Griffin products. I’m using it with 3GS.

It worked great, the reception was great, and then I used it for about 15 minutes, and I heard a loud *pop*, and light smoke started coming out of the device. It still seems to work, but I don’t know for how much longer, and it’s not worth damaging the phone. Fast shipping, but if this item cost more (paid $13.12 incl shipping) I would have tried to return it.

Works beautifully with my Ipod. I just got the new Iphone 3GS and although it still plays beautifully- it doesn’t charge while playing as it does with the ipod.

The item is good. It works well and it does what it claims. It keeps the ipod in place and you can listen to your music in the car through an FM station. The drawback is that in my car if I place the charger in the lighter opening, the gear lever pushes the holder. There is not enough space for both. So check if you have enough space in your car before buying.

3 Stars Nice Sound But Broke within 2 months
I bought this product about 2 months ago. It worked very well until about a week ago. One of the wires inside came undone so now I am only able to hear my music on the right speaker in my car.

If you don’t mind buying one every couple of months-by all means buy it. Otherwise, invest in something a bit better that will actually last.

4 Stars Pretty good actually…
I think this cord works great, had almost a year now and no problems (yes, even my little plastic retractor thing is still intact). The only issue is I can’t seem to get my ipod as loud as I could get with a cd, but I’m going to change my EQ (I have an ipod touch) and see if that makes a difference. The cord could be a little longer (I have a Land Rover, and the MP3 jack is in the back of the middle console); it barely reaches to my lap. Otherwise, very pleased, especially for the price.

3 Stars Great item but cord is too short
I like it for playing my itunes songs. The sound is great once you find an empty station. It works well to charge the phone. The cord is very short and doesn’t have much ‘spring’ to it. I mean it is very short!!!! I can’t have it plugged in and look for my favorite song on the phone.

I bought this device to both charge the iPhone and play music through the radio. You MUST find a blank frequency or the background station will likely distort your music. Even on a clear frequency, the highs are slightly clipped. The cord is coiled but only reaches about 2 ft. This barely makes it to the front seat where I lay the device and wants to pull it off the seat. Make sure your lighter socket is fairly close to where you want to locate the device. Selecting a frequency is straight forward as well as the on/off button. The connector locks into the device and you must squeeze the tabs on the side of the connector to release it. Overall, not bad – gets the job done.

I’m pretty new to the Ipod world, so I don’t have much of a basis for comparison. However, this product has met my needs for a device that would play my Ipod through the car’s stereo system while recharging the battery.

In researching for a car adapter, I saw that many people said that you should avoid an FM transmitter and go with a device that uses the AUX outlet (if you have one). Of course an AUX outlet doesn’t recharge the Ipod battery so you’d have to go with a separate battery charger and adapter combo. Another advantage of an FM transmitter is that you can use it in a more basic car without an AUX outlet.

At first the transmitter picked up a lot of static from the recommended frequency. I could see how someone living in a metro area (and I live in the suburbs of the NY tristate area) could have trouble finding a static free frequency. Luckily I was able to find a better frequency and the sound for the most part has been quite good. However, I still occasionally have to reset the frequency when traveling a distance and there are some (thankfully small) zones where there’s always a bit of static.

Otherwise, I’m very happy with this product.

Works great with Ipod. Signal strength was also excellent. Just plug it in to your car and listen to your own tunes! I am very satisfied with the product, and would recommmend it.

Compared with Monster’s iCarplay, this transmitter is really inferior. The bass quality is lacking and the static interference is very noticeable. The iCarplay is pricer, but you get a lot better product.

2 Stars Terribe design, terrible product
I was really excited to get this, but extremely disappointed upon receiving it. The part that holds the iPhone is great, but the suction cup and “arm” are terrible to deal with. The way it’s designed, the arm doesn’t tilt enough to make the iPhone straight up and down. There’s a very small amount that you can adjust the angle of the arm, then you have to tighten four total rings to stick it in place. Then it’s still not straight, even with the extra extension arm which looks weird and ugly, and now you have a long bulky ugly arm coming from your windshield. Why couldn’t they just take a note from GPS mounts?

I cannot recommend this item at all.

***Update:

I didn’t use it for a while and the rings you use to tighten the arms got stuck on. I used pliers to try and loosen them so I could adjust the arms, and ended up breaking the fragile plastic instead.

What a piece of garbage. Literally – I had to throw it away.

I’d give this a 1 star but my previous review was a 2 star and I can’t change it.

1 Star Angle is too limited
The arms move/tilt in a very small angle so the phone/ipod holder does not point at the direction that you might want. I tried the dash mount, my iphone was literally point at the ceiling. Not only that, the suction mount is very weak when mounting on the dash pad provided. Very disappointed with this and I did not keep it for more than a day.

4 Stars overall, pretty good
I lucked out and found some of these at TJ Maxx and picked up one for 9.99. I read the mixed reviews on the secure-ness of the suction cup, but thought it was worth a try at the low price point..

I’ve had it for a week, and it’s done well. I will admit that the first day, the suction cup fell off the window BUT, I hadn’t bothered to clean the window first, which I think was the cause. after cleaning the window, the suction cup has remained fastened solidly.

I have two issues with this item. First, and to no fault of it’s own, when this holder is attached, I can’t put my sun screen in the windshield. I think i’m going to trim the screen so it will work. Secondly, I have to take my phone out of the case to put in the holder. this is kind of a pain in the arse, especially for short trips. No other companies seem to have holders that accommodate a case either though.

Overall, cool product. Really adds usability with the maps and voice control of my 3GS.

I love this product. It actually sticks… if you use it right. I bought it in the fall when it was cold and at first it wouldn’t stick for any length of time. It would fall off at random times. I had heard great things about this product, and thought maybe it was a temperature-related problem. When I tried it again in the spring, it was somewhat better, but it would still fall off eventually. Then, I moved it from the side of the windshield to the center. Wow, what a difference! It has fallen once in the 4 months since, but I might not have tightened it properly. I think the side of my windshield is just too curved.

Suction cap is great, will not budge. If anyone is having an issue, they are just not reading the directions. High quality plastic, looks great. Only issue, in my Porsche (stiffly sprung) it vibrates a bit. I solved it by positioning it in such a way that the mount rests one corner on the dashboard. Works GREAT.

1 Star Too many flaws
I bought this transmitter. After 1 week spending many hours trying to get it working, I threw it now in the trash.

Reasons:

1. The power connector always gets loose as soon as I turn even a slight corner. I tried all ways to fix it and finally bought a double outlet adapter and plugged that between the device and the car. That helped a bit, but still, a corner – a short power outage. A better designed plug or a possibility to stabilize the plug assembly would help very much.

2. The only frequency, I could get it to work acceptably, was 107.3. Since the unit powers on by default to 88.1, I had to turn the holder, so I can see the display, adjust the frequency to 107.3, turn the holder back – ouch- again a short power loss due to turning the plug and back we are where we started: at 88.1 – that alone makes the device unusable. The device should switch on with the last used frequency. Then, that problem would not exist at all.

3. I have an iPhone 3Gs, so I planned to use the hands free option. But, as soon as I plug in the small connector cable between the iPhone and the transmitter, the sound gets very hissed, the volume is reduced to a whisper and … guess what: the sound of the phone call is so weak that neither me nor the called person could understand one word. We tried it also the other way around: getting called in the car – same result. That makes the phone option completely useless. I tried also without connecting the “phone cable” and using a bluetooth headset for the phone part. Bad idea: as soon as you switch over to Phone mode, i.e. you are answering a call or dialing, the transmitter seems to get switched off and the radio starts hissing with static electricity.

Summary: Once I got lucky and had been successful with tuning the transmitter in to 107.3, the sound quality was surprisingly great. However, as soon as the phone cable gets connected, the sound quality becomes unacceptable. Aside from that, the device has two major downfalls: unreliable powerconnector and the default frequency. If you are lucky and 88.1 is a good frequency for you, and you do not plan to use your iPhone for phone calls, you might be able to use it. In all other cases it is a waste of money. With just a few slight improvements (i.e. more reliable power connection and defaulting the frequency on power on to the last used frequency), the device would be very usable for listening to music. Still, the phone part needs a bit more rework.

the holder is okay, could be a lot sturdier. it would often slip out and turn off. but it holds.

transmitter is hard to select the channel because you can’t hold down the button to reach a new a station quickly, and also returns to the default channel. i dont know if there is a way to make it stay on the same one each time you turn on the car, but i dont think you can. not sure though.

transmitter also is not the best. average sound. average product. there are better fm transmitters that cost $50+, so for it being only $20, you get for you pay for.

5 Stars That is all I want!
It’s cool. The sound effect is just like local FM radio. And even with holder, just [...] I strongly recommend it.

2 Stars I wanted to like it, but…
I have been looking for a FM transmitter for the iPhone 3GS for a while now. This one seemed like a good one. When it did work, it sounded great. The phone transmitting through the car speakers isn’t as strong as the music playing, but it seemed to work. The main problem is that the transmitter kept blowing out fuses. I thought it might be just my car, so I tried it in my wife’s car, and the same thing happened. After going through 3 fuses in a couple of hours, I figured it just wasn’t worth it and sent the unit back.

Good: Easy installation. Inexpensive.

Bad: This device WON’T give clear CD quality sounds as some reviewer claimed, and will give low background static noises. You will always hear annoying static noises that you won’t enjoy listening to your ipod music. It is also made of cheap plastic material.

I don’t recommend this product to anyone.

5 Stars Over a year of use, still never an issue…
This is the only product of this type I’ve ever owned and I have no reason to look anywhere else for a different style should I ever need another. Love the large footprint… and the fact that it stays where you put it. I own an Xterra which has a relatively narrow dash, as a result I have two corners hanging off the edge of the dash. Still not an issue, the thing stays put. Have been very happy with the product… youll be happy too~!

So far seems to be OK. It holds my Garmin fine and it has not lost its traction or its load. It is a little bulkier that I thought it was going to be and that is the only reason for 4 out of 5 stars.

5 Stars excellent adaptability
After a brief trial period with a sunken-hole-in-the-doughnut style navmat(Bracketon, I think) I got the far superior and only slightly more expensive Gilsson UBM model. Have owned it for about six months, in both hot and cold weather,and I am still very pleased with it. Great stability, quality materials, easy placement on almost any dashboard, and easy GPS mounting for nearly any unit under 7-inches. Overall, a very well designed and manufactured product.

1 Star Stopped working pretty quickly
This is garbage. It’s the second dual USB charger I have bought through Amazon (different brands) and both stopped working after just a couple of months I can only assume that there are problems with this kind of device. Do they burn out or what? Anyway don’t waste your money. It’s a big pile of junk.

I got this not to long ago and haven’t had any issues with it. It seems to be a pretty durable product, has thick plastic, and the usb ports seem to be a little sturdier than in most other products. If I ever need another one, this is the kind I’ll be buying in the future.

I use this to charge my Zune and my phone. I don’t get any buzzing or feedback on my Zune except for when I first start my car, after that it works great. I used to have a one piece Zune charger and it would buzz all the time, this one just has a short burst of buzz when I start my truck and that is it. Plus the shipping was fast. 4 Stars Cost effective solution for a new aux. input.
The price is just right for this piece of hardware. It plugs directly into the antenna input on the back of your stereo, and it still allows you to use your antenna. It does what it says it will do with the following 2 drawbacks.

1) It is not a crystal clear sound; you still end up with some static coming through your speakers.

2) You cannot turn your external device up all the way without a loss in audio quality.

The installation was very easy, but if you’re one of those people who can’t even change their own oil you would be better off taking it to someone else for installation.

All in all I am very happy I didn’t have to buy a new stereo just to have an aux. input. Shipping was very fast as well (3 days) with the FREE shipping option through amazon.

4 Stars Great option to play the i-Phone thru car stereos
This was very easy to install. The unit plays all my i-tunes thru my after market car stereo quite nicely. No static or hum when in i-Pod mode. I also like listening to Pandora on my i-Phone. This modulator allows me to push the sound thru the stereo. The only drawback is that it doesn’t always cancel out the hum and general interference inherent in the i-Phone when playing this app. This is solely a problem with the i-Phone as any one who has placed one near computers or car stereos can attest. The level of “feedback” varies depending on signal strength. All in all, it was a bargain as far as I’m concerned. I am glad I bought it!

5 Stars CD Like Sound Quality
This was kind of my last option because i have tried anything from fm transmitters to the wireless transmitters as well as using a cassette. I have always been dissapointed with the sound quality and all of the static. Well this product is amazing. the sound is perfect and you can hide everything in your car. you cant even tell a difference when you look at my stereo. the only trouble i had was trying to figure out how i would wire the unit. I ended up hooking the red wire into the fuse for my windshield wiper and i ground the black wire into a screw near the fuse box. the plus about wiring the red wire into a fuse is that the new auxilary port will turn off when you turn off your car. so that was it. i then hid all the wires and plugged the modulator into my stereo unit. i did not need a antenna adapter because my stereo unit had a spot that fit. Everything looks great in my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero!!!

4 Stars Get This Modulator, Not A Plug In Transmitter
For those, like myself, who want to play an iPod in their vehicle using the factory stereo there are two options: an FM transmitter (most likely a simple plug in device) or an FM modulator (that goes inline with the car antenna). I have 2 cars with factory in dash 6 CD changers and no way to input audio into the unit. This Scosche has been my solution to getting iPod audio into the system.

It is about an hour long job to slide out the stereo, figure out where to put the unit behind the dash, run the power and ground, and lastly place the switch and input. So, you or a friend have to be comfortable with sliding the radio out to do the work and be able to find the fuse box to tap into some power. However, it is well worth the time. No, it is not as easy as the plug kind, nor is its sound is not as pure as a true 30 pin iPod connector, but given that this is really the only option, it is good enough for me.

I am going to recommend getting some 3M heavy duty double stick tape to stick the gray box to the back side of the dashboard (or some other out of the way spot behind the dash). You can get this tape in most hardware stores or even WalMart or KMart. You will recognize the tape by its red peel-off backing.

Lastly, I am only giving this product 4 stars as one of the 3 units I bought failed after about 13 months. The others seem to be ok, but I could not give it 5 stars due to that fact. Beyond that, I love it!
