The iH9 is an updated and improved successor to iHome’s award-winning iH8 clock radio for iPod. The iH9 contains several new features requested by customers, including a remote that controls both the unit and iPod menu functions; controls for bass, treble, and balance; and 3D sound for an enhanced audio experience. iHome has updated the design to make the cabinet even sleeker and more user-friendly, as well as further enhanced the alarm settings–you can wake to your own custom iPod playlist at different times on different days.

iPod, Radio, or Buzzer Alarm
Wake to your docked iPod, the radio, or–if you must–a classic buzzer alarm. Whichever you choose, a gradual alarm feature gently raises the alarm volume, so it’s not too jarring. Dual alarm lets you set separate wake times.

The 7-5-2 alarm setting means you can set separate wake times, either for every day or separate weekday/weekend times. You also can wake to the playlist or song of your choice.

The alarm also boasts a number of features to ensure you get up in the morning. Battery backup means you’ll still get up in the event of a power failure, and Alarm Reset turns off the alarm and automatically resets it for the same time the following day. If you select to wake to iPod but no iPod is docked, you’re still covered–the iH9 will sound the buzzer instead.

Sleep Features
In designing the iH9, iHome paid special attention to the other end of the alarm clock equation–going to bed. Sleep to iPod or radio, with programmable sleep times of 120, 90, 60, 30, or 15 minutes. Gentle Sleep gradually decreases the music volume as you drift off to dreamland.

What’s more, an Adjustable Sleep volume solves an old alarm clock problem, allowing you to select a comfortable “sleep” volume level without affecting the “wake to” or listening volume levels.

Programmable Snooze
The iH9′s programmable snooze feature allows you to set snooze intervals of 1 to 60 minutes, so you can milk every last second of sleep before you’re late for work.

Play and Charge Your iPod
The iH9′s Universal dock plays and charges most docking iPod models (in addition to using them for alarms). So when you do finally wake up, your iPod will have a full charge as you head out the door.

1 Star i home should be ashamed
The radio reception is so bad it’s irritating. My wife bought three of these at Christmas time. They are all the same. I live in a major metropolitan area so you can’t blame it on signal strength. When a manufacturer puts out a product of this quality they should be ashamed.

3 Stars Good with Nano, not with Touch
As others have posted, the FM quality is very poor. The sound quality with my iPod Nano 1G is excellent. However, as a number of others have posted, there is static and noise when using the iPod Touch 2G. Others have reported that the company is unresponsive to this problem, I’m waiting to hear from them regarding exchange.

Like most people said, the light dimming feature is awesome. although when i pause it, sometimes it makes crackling noises. its not a bad noise, just irritating. dual alarm clock function is nice. it is REALLY loud for how small the bugger is. remote carries all functions that the buttons on the ihome has. although, like many said, its a bit smaller than an ipod nano so its tough to find if you lose it. it doesn’t come with ipod touch dock attachement either

Overall good purchase. The remote only works from a few feet away, and you have to be holding it directly in front of player, so not really worth the trouble. However the features are great. Love the dimmer and the alarm options. Sound is really decent too.

My favorite function is alarm clock. Very clear digit, not-so-noisy buzzer, sleep timer. It is also good speaker for iPod, and good radio tuner. But it has 6 pre-set channels, this is a little short for me.

I was looking for a speaker that will play music from my ipod and this is the best in the market. Great sound and looks! It is just strictly a speaker, with high fidelity even at high volumes. No radio, but has provisions for connecting other audio sources.

I bought and tried a number of other docking speaker systems and retuned them all because the sound quality was just not there. In contrast, I was and am still blown away by how great this product sounds. The highs are clean and lows are unbelievable (especially if you place the speakers on the floor) which was what all the other products I tried was lacking.

It has everything I was looking for. Extremely well built with solid construction and heavy duty metal screens for protecting the speakers, Portability (runs on AC or eight D batteries that last well longer than advertised in the product description) plenty of volume, 360 degree sound output, and most importantly fantastic sound quality.

The value provided is well worth the price tag. I continue to get compliments by friends who can’t believe such great sound coming from such a small device. I cannot think of anything negative to say about this product. WOW!

5 Stars The best of its kind
I tried various brands Sony, Bose etc, and as a professional musician and studio artist, I can say this has the best sound for an iPod player. It is perfectly equalized, and very powerful for its size. The remote is very handy also, being rf, and able to switch between playlists. Very well thought machine. The only strange problem is the iPod docks under the handle, not the most ergonomic design, but who cares about such a minor inconvenience, when everything else is so perfect.

5 Stars Fantastic Sound!
I am very pleased with this speaker system. I selected this after reading reviews of several options, and it sounded like the best for outdoor use which is my primary reason for wanting it. I was a bit hesitant as it sounds like the price is lowered to move them off the shelves for new models, but when considering the good reviews and the current price I could not resist. I really only need to use it as a speaker, but would have been happier if it included a radio for this price. When I first opened the box it was very easy to plug in and play and I couldn’t even turn it up to full volume in the house as it gets so loud. I am not a “teckie” and only wanted something that sounded good as I have thousands of songs on my IPOD and just want to be able to play them and be mobile. I used it for a large outdoor cookout and I got many compliments on the sound. The only disappointment was from my nephew (early 20′s) who could not connect his Iphone to it. I told him to keep on the lookout for future models.

I did note that some purchasers said the bass was a bit high (and it can’t be adjusted). I did make note of that when I listened carefully but didn’t feel it was so overpowering that it negatively impacted playing songs. Again, I got many compliments and comments that it does sound better than Bose and I was very, very pleased with the performance.

I highly recommend this unit; however I must add a caveat about the price. I got this for about $250 new on Amazon, I see the price is now about $349. Not sure I would have made that leap but if it is in the range you are looking for it’s a great unit.

I was visiting a friends house and I thought he was using his state of the art stereo. When entering the living room I found out it was the go+play. I knew I had to have one right then. 1 Star As long as you don’t it to work, great product.
We are on our second one (we returned the first one), and more problems with this one than the first. I wanted this for its portability and ability to use the iPod dock. I found within ten (10) minutes, that the first point was good, the second was completely amiss. The iPod would play for about 3-4 minutes and then pause itself. I tried using the different adapters thinking that would make a difference, but no luck. This occurred with both of the units we’ve had. Second, if you want to use the digital radio tuner (AM or FM)… it will let you get close to the exact station, but it is a challenge (a game almost) to get exactly on the number. Additionally, the sound quality on radio has much to be desired… of course that could be because the actual station is not tuned in because the digital tuner moves up / down the dial on its own.

Overall, big disappointment… would not recommend this to ANYONE.

1 Star I should have read the bad reviews first!
I bought this player to listen to the radio/ipod/cd player for the kitchen.

The sound quality for the fm radio has lot of static. You can’t really listen to the radio! The cd player DOES NOT have anti-skip technology; therefore, it jumps every 10 seconds of music (specially if the volume is all the way up – I guess the sound vibrations makes it skip). My only hope is that the Ipod connection works (I haven’t tested it yet but I do hope that it works ’cause if it isn’t it goes to the garbage). Unfortunately, I threw out the box where the radio came in so I can’t return the product to Amazon.

Avoid this product like the plague unless you want to waste your money like I did.

1 Star Proof you get what you pay for…
This item is just fine…if you only want to use it with batteries, or are not at all particular about sound quality. The CD player is a vertical style, which has a tendency to skip and drag with any slight touch of the unit while it is playing. The ipod player is adequate, but the design makes it hard to access the ipod buttons/controls while it is in the cradle. My biggest complaint of this item is that the power cord keeps just “dropping out” of the place where it plugs in to the unit! The plug is completely loose, and it is impossible to get a tight connection, so you can’t anchor the plug into the unit! If you move the unit AT ALL while it is plugged in, the power cord simply just drops out! They have placed this attachment at the bottom left corner of the unit, almost so that it automatically slides out due to the very angle of the attachment.

I purchased this as a gift for my husband to use while outside. It’s too bad that by the time he opened the present, I had already thrown away the box and packing slip, because I would have sent it back! Cheap design at a cheap price.

3 Stars should have read the reviews first
the box is right size for me to take along and have my own music when needed. The first day it played well for the first hour. Then the ipod music stopped. Once I got it going again, then I kept getting static with the ipod and then with the radio stations. On the radio mode, the station would jump. The dial was very loose. So, I exchanged it for another one thinking I just got a lemon. I just received the second one today. So far, it hasn’t shut off but the static sound is still there. The radio dial is tighter. If I had read the reviews before the first purchase I would have looked for something else. Also it is not easy to get my ipod out of the docking station. They should have made the handle more flexible. I’m going to try this replacement one for a week and see if I can deal with it. Because of the price, I may keep it just for outings. If not it goes back and I will research before I buy again. But amazon was good with the first return and the quick response to sending the replacement out. Next day.

5 Stars Perfect for my needs
I’m very impressed with this little unit. How can something so simple-looking and so small work so well without its own power source? I listen to books-on-tape at night and this really fits the bill. No need for high volume and the sound quality is just fine at the volume I use. I waited a week to rate it because a different machine (iHome)broke after just a few nights. Very poor quality. So far, this one is a gooder.

The only thing I didn’t like is that the packaging was a little confusing. It read, “No batteries/AC adapter required.” Now that I know the “/” replaces the word “or”, it’s clear, but the salesMEN (plural) and I understood it to mean that batteries weren’t needed but an AC adapter was. In the end, I returned the unnecessary adapter and really like this thing.

It’s a few months later and I thought I’d update… NO CHANGE! I still think this speaker is fantastic. I’ve traveled with it since my last post and had zero problems. It’s really great. Highly recommended.

4 Stars Crisp clear but small sound!
First off, if you’re planning a Disco, then these are definitely not for you.

These speakers are great for listening to music in small spaces, your bedside, for example. Volume isn’t great (though I get more out of them by increasing the volume setting on my iPod through iTunes – If you don’t do this, sound will be frustratingly low) as the speakers draw power from whatever device they are connected to (iPod, PC, phone, etc, sparing you worries about charging or replacing batteries), but sound quality is crisp and clear with some Bass sounding. Just remember to disable any Bass boost or equalizer settings on your player to prevent sound distortion.

The design is lovely, and ideal for travel, snaps shut like a spectacles case, and the 30cm cord wraps snugly into place, but you must handle with care as the hinge does look rather fragile.

Great for when one tires of using headphones.

4 Stars Surprisingly good!
I picked this up for a little speaker set to carry around. I also have the Sony SRS-T33 Sony SRS-T33 Compact Portable Speakers (Blue)active/passive speakers which work great. While this speaker is better passive than the SRS-T33 used passively, the TR-33 does have a better sound when battery powered. Nice to have in the kitchen or downstairs to plug my MP-3 player into while folding laundry.

Let’s not kid ourselves though, it’s not gonna power a dance party.

Also consider: the LG MSP-100 LG OEM MSP100 MSP-100 Stereo Portable Universal Speaker which charges through USB and comes with connections for mini- and micro- jacks which also has a pretty nice sound for the size.

3 Stars A price to pay for portability
If you can tolerate just a little bit bigger speaker with batteries, there are better choices for the money. iHome iHM10B from Wal-Mart is better sounding (a subjective opinion) and cheaper, but it is a little bigger and takes batteries. However, if your priority is portability, these will do nicely.

5 Stars Finally, No need to put earbuds in ears and batteries in speakers
I have many speakers for my MP3 players. They all require power cord or batteries (AA, AAA or C). When I received this speaker and tried it with my iPod Classic and other MP3 players, I felt so good to be able to listen to my MP3 without earbuds and be able to walk around with my speaker. Of course, my other speakers work too, but those speakers are not as portable as this little beauty. I don’t like having headphones on and I hate loud music that hurts my ears and upsets my neighbors, so I usually have to stay in the same spot while using the speakers that are plugged into a wall outlet. This can be very painful. Now I am having this speaker and my MP3 player hung around my neck. How? Well, I took the speaker cover off, used a long string to hold the speaker just like I used the lanyard to hold my MP3 players, then put them around my neck. That’s it. No need to worry about loud speakers at night. No need to put up with the discomfort of earphones. No need to switch MP3 players and speakers (I have speakers in every room), I am able to carry this low-volume speaker with me any time, anywhere.

Granted, it does not have the best sound quality and loudest volume, but it is just wonderful that I don’t have to use earbuds or stuck in front of a speaker that is plugged into the wall when I listen to my MP3. You know that when the music from your big speakers can be heard in every corner of the house, it will annoy the neighbors, especially at night. But with this speaker in my hand, around my neck or in my pocket, I will not upset my neighbor day or night.

Besides, this is the most economical choice for listening to your MP3 without headphones. No batteries needed, no wall outlet required. No need to carry batteries or AC adapter for it when using it away from home. Love it. Love it. Love it.

5 Stars Perfect for Summer
This little unit has been rock solid. We’ve used it for over 2 years now. It’s the centerpiece of our summer swim parties, beach vacations, etc. Even after significant beatings, we’ve had no problems. One thing to note, if you’re looking to listen to a baseball game on AM radio, this unit only supports FM.

1 Star Just give it some time… to break
After less than a year, the unit stopped recognizing an attached ipod. It looks brand-new, but is nothing more than a limited-function radio (without any ipod function whatsoever). I guess this isn’t surprising for new electronics these days, but buyer beware, anyway…

Even after reading all of the other reviews I still purchased this product. I would not recommend this product to anyone with an ipod touch, it just doesn’t work. However, with a new ipod classic, it works very well. The sound that comes out of this little box is quite amazing. Even the radio sounds good. Too bad it doesn’t work with the ipod touch.

1 Star Very Disappointing
I recieved the iM600 in original packaging and it worked great for about 2 weeks.

Then, it never turned on again.

the Green charging light comes on when the ac power cord goes in, but it doesn’t seem to charge, and it won’t run on the AC directly from the wall socket.

This unit was purchased used or refurbished and I am unsure whether i will ever get this working or if I am just out $90.00

4 Stars System does just what I want
I bought this portable speaker system for my new iPod (4th Generation Nano) after reading varous reviews online of different speakers. I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars, as I am not that fussy. I wanted a system I could take outside with me when I garden, as it is hard to do serious gardening with something strapped to your arm, cords dangling, and things in your ears. My husband told me it is also embarrasing to hear me singing quite loudly, a capella as it were, as I sing off key. This way I can sing along and no one has to be listening to my singing! Note: The speaker can be loud enough to disturb neighbors, so be aware.

I quickly found that I liked to play it in the kitchen to listen to my music, and it was also nice not to have cords dangling around my person. I do think it sounds better through the ear buds than through this speaker, but, hey, you can’t have it all for this price. It sounds fine to me.

I have not set up the FM radio, but there is no reason it would not work. There are very scanty directions with this unit and until today, I was sure the remote would not change anything on the ipod itself, that it was just for the FM radio. When re -reading some of the reviews, i realized it must do something to the iPod and found it can swtich songs and change the volume, and turn the stuff on and off. So that is helpful. It is also nice that when you have it plugged in, it charges your ipod as well. My main beef is that it had inadequate instructions, if you are the kind of person who reads these things! And, the remote control falls out of the back of the unit quite easily.

5 Stars Love, Love,Love it
I bought this several months ago for around $39. It sells at my local bike shop for $89. It works great its a little hard to put on just because on of the mounts are in the tube maybe if you have a tiny hand it would be easier. I found that if I screw the hard side in first that it was much easier, that being said it is to much trouble for me to keep switching it over to my other bike(I have several times). So I think I will get another one so I will have 2 cages and remotes. I see the price went up to $46 but I will just keep checking. Another negative is it takes up a spot for a water cage and i drink alot of water. So on some rides instead of bringing the speaker I will opt for a water bottle with a thin coozy on it. Just the water bottle it self jiggles around too much because the speaker is a little bigger around than my water bottles. Most people would not have these problems I’m just too lazy to switch the cage over between bikes. Anyway it has great sound the remote works well. And it is alwys a big hit when I do a groupd bike ride (I first saw it on a bike ride The Space Race) It works great because you dont have to worry about the earbuds and not being able to hear traffic also I couldnt stand the wire and was always worried about my ipod falling out. now its no worries because you put the ipod inside the speaker tube.

2 Stars Great idea, poor execution
I was sooo looking forward to this. The concept is great. Replace the water bottle holder with the Bike to Beach holder, slide in the unit, and music without headphones while biking. Terrific idea.

Unfortunately, the handlebar remote didn’t work. Thinking it was the batteries, I replaced them. Still the remote didn’t work. OK, I suppose I could just start my playlist, place my iPod in the main unit, and let it play. But. . .

Without the handlebar remote unit, there is no volume control. The main unit plays at a preset volume, and changing the volume on the iPod itself is irrelevant as the unit has a preset volume.

Two stars for poor manufacture and execution.

5 Stars Music for my bike
This is a great item that I have actually had before, but the previous one broke after a year of hard riding and dropping it a couple of times. This one works great and make riding my bike so enjoyable. I take it on all my rides from 10 to 60 miles.

3 Stars Not sure how much I’ll use this
This has much better fidelity / volume than the CyFi but it is definately something for a cruiser instead of a racer. It’s built to take abuse, but it is heavy. Would be nice if it had rechargable batteries and if it worked with the iphone instead of just the ipod.

Have really liked this speaker, for how small it is, it has very good sound, like the size, and price.

I bought these for work, to listen to my ipod. The sound quality is great, but I had to replace the batteries every week. I ended up throwing them away because at one point the batteries leaked and it was a mess. I do not recommend these only because of the use of batteries. Other than that, they’re ok speakers.

OK, first for all the folks complaining that this unit isn’t audiophile quality: DUH! What do you expect for the price?! Or the speaker size? Of course you’re not going to get anything approaching serious audio quality or a real bottom end from anything this small!

I got this from Vortex Cable for under eight bucks, including shipping, and have used it nearly non-stop since it arrived yesterday. They shipped it promptly, in a bubble-pack envelope, and it arrived in fine shape. It’s perfect with my Zune on the desk, or where I really wanted it – out in the garden. It’s extremely directional, which is a drawback for outdoor use, but you can’t beat this price with a stick. Even if it only lasts for the rest of the growing season I’ll have gotten my money’s-worth. And right now you can get them for about five bucks including shipping from Bargain Cell – I’m buying three more as gifts today because you just can’t go wrong at that price.

Highly recommended as a knock-around, extremely portable way to listen to your Zune (or iPod) if, like me, you hate headphones/ear buds. If it falls apart or otherwise disappoints me in the next few weeks I’ll be back with another review, but for now I give it five stars *at the price of $10 or less* because I certainly didn’t expect even this much for that price.

5 Stars Great little gadget!
This product got some negative reviews that almost kept me from purchasing it. Because of the price, I went ahead and bought it, and I am so glad I did!

The sound is certainly not high fidelity, but surely no one purchasing speakers in this price range would expect that. They are perfectly adequate for listening without having to wear the earphones. I use mine in the bathroom while I’m getting ready and I have no complaints about sound quality for use in a similar circumstance.

There was one review that said the volume was inadequate. That is completely untrue as long as you turn the volume up on the ipod. I set my ipod volume to max and the speakers put out more volume than I want.

Bottom line…if you’re looking for a way to listen to your ipod without earphones in a casual setting…this is for you!

4 Stars Works for what I want the too
I bought these speakers to play music during my wife birthing process, and while she hasn’t given birth yet, she has run the vacuum while I had these going. I could still hear the music clearly. I haven’t had any batteries related issues either. The only real probably I had was the USB power plug, I find it moderately inconvenient. I picked up an adapter from Walgreen’s for about 10 bucks.

This speaker system is great for the use we intended. It has adequate sound, it recharges our ipod’s and it is very portable. The small size and compact nature enabled us to take it on a cruise, plug it in and have our own selection of music and podcasts at any time. I recommend this item for anyone looking for a good solid speaker system. I would not use it for high quality sound needs such as dances etc.

2 Stars Looks and sound crappy cheap
I bought these speakers because they were cheap and I needed asap. Well, you get what you pay for. The sound is barely audible on the loudest setting. My biggest problem with the speakers was the sound quality; it was pretty bad, it is horrible. It sounded as if I were using a Walkman, rather than an iPod. Also, they burn through your batteries very fast. The speakers I bought did not bring a power adapter and that was a BIG problem.

Overall, the packaging and compactness is cool looking but it is not worth the $2. If they could just fix the sound quality it would be much better.

This little beauty can be brought whereever you may want to enjoy life and your favorite tunage (except for maybe the beach where sand can get into it). It’s the size of a bread box or standard sized mailbox. We enjoy it in our garden, front porch, back patio, kitchen, bedroom, living room and it comes with a lighter plug-in for your car! I would avoid putting it in direct sunlight, near heat sources and of course water. The sound is GREAT! I highly recommend this product to music lovers everywhere.

I purchased one of these from Sams Club. The sound quality was good while it lasted. Key word is while it lasted. In less than six months it suddenly stopped playing music, but was still charging my iPhone. I took it back to Sams Club and they were nice enough to refund my money.

5 Stars Best sound in the entire House
I bought the Bose SoundDock for my wife’s birthday a month ago and we put it in the kitchen area. It sounds great! The best sound in the house and all of my kids can play their ipods on it. The remote works great, but doesn’t give you as much functionality as the actual ipod. We have only used it for volume and to skip to the next song, and turn it on and off. Overall, we are very happy.
