My daughter is hard on electronics, so when she sat on her ipod, in her back pocket she thought all was lost.

But the replacement is easy to do if you are patient gentle, and follow the instructions.

I opened, removed and replaced this lcd screen in about 25 minutes.

The trick is follow the instructions, and be slow thoughtful, gentle and methodical.

It comes with the tools necessary to open the iPod.

5 Stars iPod Classic
iPod Classic, in my honest opinion, is the only way to go. Classic is the only iPod that offers such large capacities, and the 30GB size barely fits my entire CD collection.

2 Stars its not all that it was CRACKED up to be!!
This product was cheap….90 dollars for an ipod video but it came with 3 cracks in the screen, however in the product description there was nothing about the cracks! So this person is selling cheap stuff without being fully honest of quality. Buyer be where….Possibly contract seller and ask questions about item before purchasing it.

2 Stars Died Frequently
I first received the 30GB black iPod video in June of 2007. I had to replace it 1x,2x,3x,4x,5x.

I am replacing my iPod tomorrow for the 5th time because even though I reinstalled the software and restored the iPod to its original settings, it refuses to sync.

This is what happens when you outsource manufacturing to China. When things were made in America, they lasted!

Battery life is horrible. Scratches easily. Screen is easily cracked. I honestly threw this thing away after the screen cracked. P.O.S. I realized that just didn’t have to look that cool so I bought a creative labs mp3 player.

4 Stars Robust, but aging
I’ve owned my black 30gig for almost two years now, and it’s done fine by me. Hardly has any nicks or scratches on it since I keep it in its cloth sleeve most of the time. It’s a feature-filled mp3 player, but by and large I only find myself using it for music. By now there are better options out there, like the iPod Classic.

Pros:

-elegant design

-decent sound quality when paired with some good headphones (like my Koss PortaPro Headphones with Case)

-decent size for the price (which, for me, was $50 with my Mac)

-With a Mac, can sync things like contacts and calendar appointments, which is surprisingly useful

-Video quality is nice though I never use it

-solid build quality (though I’ve never dropped it onto a hard surface, thank god)

Cons:

-not enough space for my collection (I need about 60gig, but the new Classics are 120gig, so get one of those)

-scrolling on clickwheel is touchy; often just as I take my thumb off of it, the slight movement of doing so moves the selector to the next item rather than the thing I was selecting, which is frustrating.

-battery life is acceptable but could be better (and is on the newer models)

-powering on/off is kind of stupid with having to hold a button down for three seconds.

-pulling the headphone cord usually pauses the music and I can just flick on the lock, but it doesn’t always work; sometimes I’ll come back to my car to find the thing still playing.

-menus could be better

By the time of this review, there are better options from Apple and others available. Sometimes I wish this one would crap out so I could get a Touch (wouldn’t fit all my music but the Apps and interface are awesome) or a Classic (would fit all my collection and then some). But in the meantime, it works quite nicely with the right playlist synced, and for the most part I can just turn it on Shuffle and tune the day away.

I’m pretty pleased with this product.

PROS:

LOOKS GREAT!

Saves me from carrying CDs everywhere, which was my main goal.

Adaptable. It made my installation of all my stereo system easy and that much better.

CONS:

-I had to buy an IPOD. (still learning the whole IPOD thing)

-Video downloads from IPOD I can hear them but not see them. not sure why, and haven’t had the time to look into it. so I carry a DVD or two, til I look into it, but it still Looks Great!

3 Stars Great unit, but USB indexing need work!!!
Let me start with my biggest issue with the unit: USB support.

Ok, I had a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB in my previous car, a 2-3 year old model now. I have a Fujitsu 80GB 4200RPM Hard Drive in a Masscool USB case. With this setup, I usually have about 17-22GB worth of music on the unit. With my old head unit, it would take about 30 seconds to load and start playing. And while it was loading, I could listen to the radio, a CD, etc, then switch to the USB, and it would immediately play…This unit is a whole new story. With the same setup, load times are now over a minute (I have timed it to be 1:05), and that is not only when you first start you car, but every time you go to another source and return to USB, you have to wait. This is an awful system. I realize the drive has to do indexing to make a list, but my old Pioneer unit did the same thing, and much more quickly, and while playing another source. This unit is also double the price of my old one. Acceptable load times for something like this should be no more than 30 seconds. Even if the first time you hooked it up it took longer, then it could save an index in memory or on the drive. But no, it rebuilds it EVERY TIME you return to the unit, and it takes forever.

On the positive side, the screen is awesome, the touch features are great, the sound quality is great, and if you have an ipod, it is supposed to work very quickly with that.

However, I bought the unit primarily to play from a USB hard drive, so to me everything else is secondary.

And no, my drive is not slow. I can read from it on my PC in the 20 to 25 Megabytes per second range, much faster than cheap flash memory, though expensive flash can be faster, and better random read times, so it may build an index more quickly, but it’s hit or miss.

Many of the other reviews here have already thoroughly covered many of the excellent other features on the unit. My review is to describe to those interested in non-iPod USB support how well it works. Once it loads, it works great. But if you have a good amount of music, prepare to wait. EVERY TIME!

5 Stars Clean Power
Speakers: SL60 Fronts, SL80 Rears, Polk PA1100.5 amp.

Before I hooked this up to an amp I ran the speakers off the HU itself & it was very clear.

Hooked up the amp to the HU & man, crankin and clear. Was teetering on a 4 star because of the handbrake situation ticked me off, but I knew what I was in for. (has to be on to watch DVD’s) Will go around that but haven’t yet.

Some menu’s are 3 or 4 deep so there is some adjusting while driving (as with almost any HU) so if your one of those, like me that want every song so sound perfect, be careful driving.

Don’t get me wrong, I would rather have more options to fine tune than less, so this is a great unit, clean, customizable & defiantly not an eyesore.
