1 Star Worked fine, for a short while
I bought this charger for my iPhone about 3 months ago. It worked fine for charging my iPhone in the car, though the cord was so short as to make it impossible to talk on the phone while it charged. Now, however, it will only work if the connector is inserted into the phone at an angle and propped up, a position pretty much impossible to maintain in a moving car.

I still need to charge my phone in the car occasionally so I plan to replace this unit with a higher quality product.

4 Stars Perfect for me, but not for everyone…
I use this to charge my iPhone 3G. I had a regular PowerJolt (non SE) before this and the USB cable that came with the original PowerJolt quit working within a week causing me to have to use another USB cable paired with it. Then the USB connection began to get tempermental so I purchased this NEWER and IMPROVED design. So far so good as this unit is an all-in-one-piece design.

Pro’s:

All-in-one piece should make it more reliable (and has been thus far).

Shorter than the old plug-in plus USB adapter (I hated having the long USB cable in my car as I always had to push the cable around.

Illuminated ring around the plug-in lets you know when the phone is charging properly.

Con’s:

Some may have liked the flexibility of always having a USB cable in the car with them (Personally I would rather pack one seperately as you would need a wall/plug-in adapter paired with it anyway unless you wanted to charge via PC).

I wish the connection would “lock” into the iPhone like the old iPod connections did (where you had to push the buttons on the side to “release” the charger). This is a small caveat but would be appreciated. With this short cord its easy to disconnect the iPhone on accident when shifting the phone around.

This is exactly what I wanted: short and compact. Yes, the cord is short, but that’s OK with me, the plug is compact, doesn’t stick out too much. The materials quality seems fine. I normally had good luck with Griffin products. I’m using it with 3GS.

It worked great, the reception was great, and then I used it for about 15 minutes, and I heard a loud *pop*, and light smoke started coming out of the device. It still seems to work, but I don’t know for how much longer, and it’s not worth damaging the phone. Fast shipping, but if this item cost more (paid $13.12 incl shipping) I would have tried to return it.

The item is good. It works well and it does what it claims. It keeps the ipod in place and you can listen to your music in the car through an FM station. The drawback is that in my car if I place the charger in the lighter opening, the gear lever pushes the holder. There is not enough space for both. So check if you have enough space in your car before buying.

3 Stars Nice Sound But Broke within 2 months
I bought this product about 2 months ago. It worked very well until about a week ago. One of the wires inside came undone so now I am only able to hear my music on the right speaker in my car.

If you don’t mind buying one every couple of months-by all means buy it. Otherwise, invest in something a bit better that will actually last.

4 Stars Pretty good actually…
I think this cord works great, had almost a year now and no problems (yes, even my little plastic retractor thing is still intact). The only issue is I can’t seem to get my ipod as loud as I could get with a cd, but I’m going to change my EQ (I have an ipod touch) and see if that makes a difference. The cord could be a little longer (I have a Land Rover, and the MP3 jack is in the back of the middle console); it barely reaches to my lap. Otherwise, very pleased, especially for the price.

My daughter is hard on electronics, so when she sat on her ipod, in her back pocket she thought all was lost.

But the replacement is easy to do if you are patient gentle, and follow the instructions.

I opened, removed and replaced this lcd screen in about 25 minutes.

The trick is follow the instructions, and be slow thoughtful, gentle and methodical.

It comes with the tools necessary to open the iPod.

Very disappointed. A worthless product. The inserts make the dock unusable. Even without the inserts you need to remove any case or skin for either an iPod or iPhone. This is ridiculous; Griffin must know that many, many people use cases and skins. Even without the case the connections are not strong. I would never recommend this product. I was ripped off.

1 Star Shame on you Griffin–poor quality control, frequent charging errors
I just received my Griffin PowerDock 4 today, and already need to return it.

Pros: Compact design. Recharging adapter built into base, so no need for bulky adapter at outlet end. Makes for easy portability. Light weight.

Cons: Perhaps I got a “lemon”, but the unit I received immediately had power supply/charging issues when I tried to charge our 2 iPhones. When a single iPhone was placed in a docking bay, it appeared to charge properly for about 5 minutes, then the phone would vibrate, beep (as if being connected to a USB cable and then disconnected–similar to the description in Charles Willson’s Amazon Review for same product), screen would turn on and off, and error message would appear saying that the legacy device was incompatible for charging the iPhone…then about 15 seconds later, it would appear to be charging again. When 2 iPhones were placed simultaneously in both front docking bays, the beeps and error messages occurred more frequently…as if the power supply of the device was insufficient to charge both iPhones at the same time.

I requested an exchange for a replacement unit from Amazon…we’ll see if the next one has the same issues….

1 Star Good idea. Not so good execution
Purchased this product for our 4 iPhone family.

I had read about the charging problems and had hoped that they were resolved. They weren’t. With 4 iPhones in this unit, they sporadically lose the charging status and cycle with a “beep”. At 2 in the morning, it’s not what you want. This problem alone was a show-stopper.

Even if this problem were resolved, I agree with other reviewers about lack of external USB ports to charge devices other than Apple products. Same with the lack of indicator light to display charging status. With “iffy” connections using the dock adapters, you can’t tell the phones are charging without pressing the iPhone button in each… a little like the 1960’s game “Operation” because the phones are so close to each other front to back.

Finally. due to size and weight of the unit, in my opinion, this is not for travel use.

Ultimately returned the product and happily substituted the lenmar 4 USB portable charger at less than half the price, a fraction of the weight and with more flexibility.

Hope this help others.

Overall a great way to charge multiple IPODS or IPOHNE, though the IPOD 3GS at times does produce an error that it is not a compatible charging device. Would be nice to be able to order additional adapters at a cost that is not so expensive. While at $1.99 not bad, the shipping brings the cost to almost $8.

2 Stars Only too bad you cannot sync from this
Looks and feels nice, but has some notable shortcomings as product:

- There is no USB connector for connecting this to a computer. You cannot sync from this; it is only–as advertised–a charging station.

- The AC power cable they give you to plug it in is only 3.5 feet long, meaning you’d better have this very near an outlet or extension cord. At least it’s not a “wall wart”.

- The package includes only one of each type of plastic adapter fitting. The good news is, you probably don’t need to use them in all cases. They seem to server more as guides for plugging devices in than as structural supports.

If you just need a charger, this will do the trick–it’s not all bad. I would, however, think you’d want to keep looking/waiting for a dock station that also lets you sync.

1 Star i home should be ashamed
The radio reception is so bad it’s irritating. My wife bought three of these at Christmas time. They are all the same. I live in a major metropolitan area so you can’t blame it on signal strength. When a manufacturer puts out a product of this quality they should be ashamed.

3 Stars Good with Nano, not with Touch
As others have posted, the FM quality is very poor. The sound quality with my iPod Nano 1G is excellent. However, as a number of others have posted, there is static and noise when using the iPod Touch 2G. Others have reported that the company is unresponsive to this problem, I’m waiting to hear from them regarding exchange.

Like most people said, the light dimming feature is awesome. although when i pause it, sometimes it makes crackling noises. its not a bad noise, just irritating. dual alarm clock function is nice. it is REALLY loud for how small the bugger is. remote carries all functions that the buttons on the ihome has. although, like many said, its a bit smaller than an ipod nano so its tough to find if you lose it. it doesn’t come with ipod touch dock attachement either

I was looking for a speaker that will play music from my ipod and this is the best in the market. Great sound and looks! It is just strictly a speaker, with high fidelity even at high volumes. No radio, but has provisions for connecting other audio sources.

I bought and tried a number of other docking speaker systems and retuned them all because the sound quality was just not there. In contrast, I was and am still blown away by how great this product sounds. The highs are clean and lows are unbelievable (especially if you place the speakers on the floor) which was what all the other products I tried was lacking.

It has everything I was looking for. Extremely well built with solid construction and heavy duty metal screens for protecting the speakers, Portability (runs on AC or eight D batteries that last well longer than advertised in the product description) plenty of volume, 360 degree sound output, and most importantly fantastic sound quality.

The value provided is well worth the price tag. I continue to get compliments by friends who can’t believe such great sound coming from such a small device. I cannot think of anything negative to say about this product. WOW!

5 Stars The best of its kind
I tried various brands Sony, Bose etc, and as a professional musician and studio artist, I can say this has the best sound for an iPod player. It is perfectly equalized, and very powerful for its size. The remote is very handy also, being rf, and able to switch between playlists. Very well thought machine. The only strange problem is the iPod docks under the handle, not the most ergonomic design, but who cares about such a minor inconvenience, when everything else is so perfect.

5 Stars Fantastic Sound!
I am very pleased with this speaker system. I selected this after reading reviews of several options, and it sounded like the best for outdoor use which is my primary reason for wanting it. I was a bit hesitant as it sounds like the price is lowered to move them off the shelves for new models, but when considering the good reviews and the current price I could not resist. I really only need to use it as a speaker, but would have been happier if it included a radio for this price. When I first opened the box it was very easy to plug in and play and I couldn’t even turn it up to full volume in the house as it gets so loud. I am not a “teckie” and only wanted something that sounded good as I have thousands of songs on my IPOD and just want to be able to play them and be mobile. I used it for a large outdoor cookout and I got many compliments on the sound. The only disappointment was from my nephew (early 20’s) who could not connect his Iphone to it. I told him to keep on the lookout for future models.

I did note that some purchasers said the bass was a bit high (and it can’t be adjusted). I did make note of that when I listened carefully but didn’t feel it was so overpowering that it negatively impacted playing songs. Again, I got many compliments and comments that it does sound better than Bose and I was very, very pleased with the performance.

I highly recommend this unit; however I must add a caveat about the price. I got this for about $250 new on Amazon, I see the price is now about $349. Not sure I would have made that leap but if it is in the range you are looking for it’s a great unit.

1 Star poor customer service
My husband bought an iphone for me. It never worked completely right from the beginning. Apple customer service tried to help, but the suggestions they made were helpful only temporarily. Then it stopped working while still under warranty. I live in a rural area. In order to have it serviced, I had to make an appt. in a city 100 miles away, and waited there past my appointment time to get it serviced…. and paid $200 to get it serviced.

Not worth the money and effort. I still feel that they are unwilling to allow other people to help with or share their products, therefore, making it very inconvenient to own and purchase their products. I’m boycotting all apple products from this point on. They apparently never learned from their past misktakes.

5 Stars Toucha Toucha Toucha Touch Me!
What can I said that hasn’t already been said? The IPOD TOUCH is a device from the future. It’s the tricorder I wanted as a child. It’s sexy, sleek, and amazing. Do I sound like a gadget fangirl? Well, not usually, but when my husband bought a TOUCH, I very quickly became hooked. More than that, the whole family suddenly had to have it. I was reminded of the classic movie The Gods Must Be Crazy when the Coke bottle landed in the middle of the tribe and soon no one could live without it. Of course, we weren’t that bad, really, but the phrase, “Where’s the Touch” became quite common. The exception was the 3-year-old. She’d asked, “Where’s Daddy’s special little TV?” Now at age 4, she’s also playing – and winning – several of the games. And that’s part of the beauty of the design of the TOUCH. It’s clean. Everyone understands the basic rules of how the apps work. Everyone can turn it on, flick through the screens, and find they app they want. The device is small enough to take everywhere but the screen is large enough to watch movies on. It is truly a paradigm-shifting design.

The TOUCH and the iPhone are fraternal twins. While springing from the same nucleus, they are different. The TOUCH is slimmer, has no phone, no GPS, and no speaker. For my tastes, that’s just fine, although a speaker would be nice. We have the 16GB version which is plenty for a score of movies/TV shows, plus some music, audiobooks, and a slew of apps. I actually like that it is not also my phone, but I wouldn’t give it away if it were! I’m just leery of all-in-one products. Battery life is descent, but we always have a charger close at hand. One nice thing is that you can turn the screen off while listening to music or an audiobook. You can even play games while listening to your own music. And of course, you have Apple’s App store full of every type of program imaginable.

We’ve had our TOUCH for more than 2 years, and we still love it. It goes everywhere with us and truly has us spoiled. More on that in my review of the Samsung Omnia.

4 Stars A good mp3 player for those of you who don’t have much music.
My first mp3 player was a silver ipod mini, once it started to die I finally decided it was time to upgrade. I went with the ipod touch. The price was a big detractor but I decided to risk it. I’ve used it for over a year now and overall I’m pretty pleased with my purchase.

The touch is very slim and quite good looking if you ask me. This compliments the smooth touch interface with the brightly lit screen that makes it easy and even a little fun to navigate. I much prefer it to the old scroll wheel design. I’s also got this new thing called apps, which are basically mini programs that you can download and use for various purposes. There’s games, books, taxes, and more. You even get a few already installed like Safari, Calendar, Mail, Contacts, YouTube, Stocks, Weather, Clock, Calculator, Maps, and Notes.

Another great thing about the touch is ease of use. The touch is very reliable both in terms of physical sturdiness and software, and it syncs up with itunes very easily, making it easy even for computer illiterate people. The interface also makes it very simple and straightforward to use.

My only real complaint is the lack of space. At the time that I originally purchased this I only had about 6 gigs of music and thought I would never need more that 16 gigs of space. Boy was I wrong. Since then my musical taste has greatly expanded and I’m now sitting on roughly 98 gigs of music. I need a new ipod badly, so I’m waiting until September for the new classics to come out and I’ll get the biggest one they’ve got. The touch is just so awesome though, that I would probably fork over the extra cash to get one if they came out with a model that met my space demands.

If you don’t mind the limited amount of space the touch is great. It may be a little pricey for what you get but I think it’s worth it overall.

I ordered this item and placed a rush on it. I then emailed the seller asking when my product would be delivered. It was then that I was emailed and told the item was sold out. I was refunded my money but why would you sell something that you do not have? I was disappointed. I’ve purchased from Amazon and from third parties before and this was my first such experience.

The 16G ipod touch is GREAT but bad experience with this seller.

2 Stars Big on hype, low on customer care
I bought this “first generation” iTouch about a year ago. Apple, in it’s wisdom, has decided that paying[..] bucks is not enough, that it should be made obsolete so that if I wanted the latest version, with a speaker and the capability to load software games, I’d have to buy a completely new unit for the same price! They even make you pay for a software upgrade (things other electronics companies offer for free), but not if you have the “first generation” iTouch, which they have decided to NOT support. Thanks, Apple, this is my first purchase from you, and my LAST.

The power adapter is very useful in that it frees me from having to connect to the computer to simply charge the battery. Not a life changing thing, but it makes charging so much easier with a lot more flexibility.

1 Star Evidently a cheap knock-off with the Apple label
Got the power adapter and cable today, and plugged my iPhone 3Gs into it — the connection is intermittent (the icon on the iPhone jumps between the lightning bolt and the plug icons) , and when I pulled the cable out of the power adapter, the cover came off the connection — neither of which would have happened with a real Apple cable and adapter. I’ll try one more time to charge my iPhone, if it doesn’t work better this time, I’ll return this setup and it’s off to the Apple store to get the real thing.

2 Stars NOT an apple product
I had found many iPod wall chargers on amazon, but was happy to find a “genuine” Apple product. DO not be fooled though! This product is not an apple product. Other walk chargers on amazon were much cheaper than this one, but I bought this charged because of the apple name. I was ripped off, and will never buy from this seller again. Though the charger works, there is always a chance it will ruin my iPod touch since it is not a true apple product . While the picture the seller posted looks exactly like the one on the Apple website, it is merely a scheme, and the one I received in the mail looks nothing like it. Don’t buy this product. You will receive the same thing if you buy the .01$ ones off other users on amazon .

This is the real Apple USB power adapter, which does NOT have retractable outlet prongs. It does have the green dot which shows it’s the latest one (not recalled.) I did not get a USB cable with mine, though. Only gave it four stars because the seller can’t figure out what they have to sell.

4 Stars good material choice
Good:

The plastic for this case is reasonably soft without being flimsy. It’s similar to silicone cookware in appearance and flexibility. There’s no harsh plastic or rubber smell. The components fit together well. It’s reasonably comfortable and non-slippery in the hand. The beveled plastic front makes it much easier to spin your finger around the touch wheel. The dock connector and headphone plug are still mostly accessible.

Bad:

The plastic inset in the back might make the case more “universal”, but it makes my skinny 120GB ipod Classic kind of fat. The extra thickness makes it impossible to use the ipod in a dock. The clear plastic on the front scratches easily (but better the plastic than the ipod). The plastic is just grippy enough to stick when you try to put it into a jacket pocket. The opening for the headphones is only barely big enough — for some jacks, it might be necessary to cut out a bit of the rubber around the headphone opening.

5 Stars great protection
Protects the screen and actually provides some protection from accidental dropping or banging. I find that the extra insert meant for he 80GB version makes the 120 fit more tightly and without it it moves around a little too much. Depending on where you sit on a plane the front protective cover can provide a little extra glare when watching video but it easily removes and re-inserts. Overall I think this is the best and most versitile protection I’ve come accross for the classis.

4 Stars Get this product and protect your investment.
I got the Speck ArmorSkin Case to protect my new iPod Classic 120GB. I’m glad I did. I love the design and it’s easy to grip and won’t slip out of your hand. Despite the bulk of the case, it’s easy to access all of the functions of your iPod. I was a bit worried about being able to access the click wheel easily but thankfully no problems there. What really made me love this case was what happened this past 4h of July. I was holding my iPod(encased in the Speck ArmorSkin) in my hand and was carrying my big, jumbo stereo boom box over my shoulder. In hindsight, carrying the two together wasn’t a smart move considering what happened. The boom box though it was being carried over shoulder was a bit awkward and cumbersome for me to carry so I had trouble holding my iPod in my hand in addition I was walking down the stairs. The iPod ended up falling out of my and tumbling down metal steps and onto the concrete floor below. My heart almost sank. I thought my new iPod was destroyed. I put down the boom box, went down the stairs, took the iPod out of the case and not a scratch, shook it, no broken internal parts, turned it on, played normally and all of the other functions worked fine. The case, as well, was barely bruised. This case is awesome.

I took off a star because the plastic front cover feels a bit light and flimsy and as others have stated, it can be easily scratched. A harder plastic could’ve been used. Why have a tough, thick durable rubber outer casing but skimp on the front cover?

Overall, this is a great case to protect your iPod. It’s worth the investment to protect such a pricey device.

4 Stars Speck Armorskin Case
This is an good case for the ipod classic, but the clear protective screen scratches easily, and it does not have a belt clip on it. It is very chunky, but easy to grip or grab onto. This particular Speck case is ok for gym use only if you have a pocket to place it into. If Speck could put a belt clip on this one, or put this one on a necklace, I would have rated it excellent. I can only give it 4 stars. Overall, it does protect the ipod, looks great, and the price was reasonable. The only complaint is its just a little inconvienent to carry if you are on the go.
